\
Q: How do I access the NextAnswers database remotely (i.e., from a dial-in session)?\
\
A: There's a utility,
\b ixFind
\b0 , in /usr/lib/indexing, which will perform DL-style searches on an indexed database like NextAnswers. Check the ixClean man page for all the gory details.\
\
The
\b ixFind
\b0 utility reads stdin, searches the specified index, and writes what it finds to stdout. Suppose the NextAnswers directory is installed as /LocalLibrary/NextAnswers. An interactive session with ixFind would look like this (the commands that you type are indicated by bold type):\
\

\f1\b\fs24 % /usr/lib/indexing/ixFind /LocalLibrary/NextAnswers\
	lockfocus\

\b0 1.0/performance.388\

In 2.0, the user interface has been improved somewhat. It will prompt you for input with the word "query" rather than silently waiting for you to type. This change is represented with italic type in the following listing:\
\

\f1\b\fs24 % /usr/lib/indexing/ixFind /LocalLibrary/NextAnswers\

\b0
\i query:

\b ^D
\b0 (control D) ends the session with
\b ixFind
\b0 and returns you to the shell.\
Note that the last line in an entry includes an indication of the type of the file (e.g. "ascii", "rtf", "english").\
